Linux Endpoint Documentation

Managed TAMU linux systems are deployed with a Linux installation that is fully supported by Technology Services for Academic Operations. The systems are configured to be compliant with applicable TAMU policies and IT controls.

General Information

  • Login with your TAMU NetID username and password
  • The system will be included in the monthly maintenance window that occurs on the third Thursday of each month. During the maintenance window, the system will be updated and rebooted. Users are given an opportunity to delay maintenance by following the instructions on the email announcement that is sent out 1 week prior to the maintenance window.
  • The system is compliant with TAMU and TAMUS policies. Changes to the configuration may require special approval and policy exceptions.
  • User data is stored locally on the device only, I.e., not on a separate network server.
  • The IT group DOES NOT provide automatic backups for data on linux devices. The user is responsible for backups.
  • Users without admin privileges can use the self-service feature to install approved software from the standard repositories.
